Description
Small, upright, broad, deciduous ornamental tree (H 6-8 m, W 3-5 m). Crown ovate to egg-shaped, dense, regular. Leaves ovate (8-12 cm), at first dark green, in summer dark red-violet, autumn colour dark red to orange-red. Flowers in hanging racemes (up to 10 cm), simple (1-1,5 cm), white. Flowering period: April-May. Fruits in racemes, round (0,8 cm), fleshy, glossy, black-red to black; good for cooking and making jams. Ripening time: August. Attracts butterflies, bees and birds. Requires light, deep, always moderately moist, but well-drained soils. The variety is a newer version of P. virginiana 'Shubert'.
