Description
Large, upright evergreen tree, conifer (H 15-30 m, W 6-10 m). Bark orange-brown, on bark grey-brown, flaky, roughly fissured. Crown at first conical, open, later ovoid to dome-shaped, eventually irregular, one-sided, picturesque. Branches wide open to horizontal. Young shoots grey-brown. Buds elongate egg-shaped, brown, mostly not resinous. Needles (4-7 cm), in pairs, spiraly twisted, grey-green. Flowers separately arranged in male and female inflorescence on the same plant. Flowering period: May. Fruits cones (3-7 cm), elongate egg-shaped, grey-brown. Easily withstands wind, cold and urban conditions, adaptable to different soils.
