Description
Small, upright, vigorously growing, often multi-stemmed deciduous tree (H 5-8 m, W 4-6 m). Crown fen-shaped to rounded, at maturity eventually dome-shaped. Bark black-red to black, ornamental. Leaves broad-palmate (6-11 cm), 5-7-lobed, with evenly serrate margin, at first very dark, black-red, keeping the colour long into summer; autumn colour bright red; leaflets remarkable, with a long, narrowly pointed tip. Flowers violet-red. Flowering period: April-May. Fruits winged, in pairs (very obtuse, almost straight angle), dark red. Ripening time: September-October. Undemanding tree, suitable for urban conditoins, normally grows in different types of soil, except the very heavy and permanently moist soils.
