Description
Large, upright evergreen tree, conifer (H 15-20 m, W 4-6 m). Crown broadly conical to egg-shaped. Bark rough, it peels off decoratively in strips. Stems flattened, fan-shaped, dense. Needles scalelike (0,2-0,4 cm), smooth, bright dark green, with white spot underside. Male and female flowers separate, on the same plant, monoecious plant; male inflorescence (5-8 mm) orange-brown, female cone-shaped inflorescence green. Flowering period: April-May. Fruits woody cones (1-2 cm), elongate round, dark brown. Requires deep, moderately moist, nutrient-rich soils, and sunny to half-shady sites. Easily withstands occasional drought, cold, heat, wind and urban conditoins.
