Description
Small, upright, slow growing deciduous tree (H 6-10 m, W 4-5 m). Crown ovate, dense. Bark orange-brown, smooth, for winter interest. Young shoots orange-brown, slightly hairy. Leaves broadly ovate (4-8 cm), with pointed tip, with a roughly toothed margin, slightly ribbed, glossy, at first bright yellow, in summer mid to dark green, underneath grey hairy. Flowers not remarkable; male flowers in hanging yellow-orange catkins (5 cm), female flowers ovate (up to 0,5 cm), brown-red. Flowering period: March. Fruits ovate (1,5 cm), cone-like, woody, black-brown. Undemanding tree, it grows well in different soil-types, best in lime; normally withstands urban conditions, polution, drought and wind.
