Description
Large, upright, evergreen tree, conifer (H 25-45 m, W 4-6 m). Crown conical, regular, later ovoid to ovate, with a characteristical round top. Bark on young shoots smooth, slightly hairy, light brown-grey; older bark silver-grey to dark grey, flaky. Branches open, horizontal. Needles flat, linear (1,5-3,5 cm), with a rounded tip, smooth, glossy, dark green, lighter beneath, with two longitudinal white bands. Flowers not remarkable, separately arranged in male and female inflorescence, on the same plant. Fruits cones, ovate (12-20 cm), dark brown. Grows best in deep, moderately moist soils, in places with higher air-humidity. Easily withstands deep shadow.
