Description

Large, upright, narrow, deciduous ornamental tree (H 15-20 m, W 3-4 m). Bark dark grey-brown to black-brown, deeply fissured. Crown distinctly columnar, regular. Leaves ovate (10-15 cm), with short petioles, with a serrate margin, smooth, dark green, lighter beneath; autumn colour bright yellow to brown-yellow. Leaves eventually persist on brunches untill early spring. Flowers separately arranged in hanging, male and female inflorescence, green-yellow. Flowering period: May. Fruits elongate (2-3 cm), hard, brown. Requires deep, moderately moist soils. Easily withstands occasional drought, cold and heat, occasional flooding and urban conditoins.

Sunny shady position

These plants grow well in sun or in partial shade. Usually they tolerate more sun and heat if given enough moisture; in partial or light shade they need less moisture.
