Description
Large, bushy, fast growing deciduous tree (H 25-35 m, W 15-20 m). Crown broadly conical, regular, dense. Bark on young shoots yellow-brown, later characteristically brown-red; later grey, fissured. Branches open, later slightly hanging. Leaves broad, heart-shaped (6-14 cm), slightly glossy, light to bright green; underneath light yellowish green; autumn colour bright yellow; petiole characteristically reddish. Flowers in light, hanging inflorescence (of 3-11 flowers), simple, pale yellow, with numerous anthers, scented. Flowering period: June-July. Fruits dry, ovate to round (0,6 cm), felty, grey. Ripening time: September-October. A tough, adaptable species, withstands occasional drought and urban conditoins. Requires moderately moist, not too dry soils and warm sites.
