Description
Medium-sized, upright, relatively fast growing evergreen tree, conifer (H 7-9 m, W 3-4 m). Crown conical to egg-shaped, dense; top characteristically drooping. Bark red-brown, it peels off decoratively in narrow strips. Needles scalelike (0,3-0,6 cm), smooth, glossy, blue-green to dark green. Male and female flowers separate, on the same plant, monoecious plant; male inflorescence (2-3 mm) pink-red, female cone-shaped inflorescence blue-green. Flowering period: April-May. Fruits woody cones (0,8 cm), round, dark brown. Requires deep, moderately moist, nutrient-rich soils, and sunny to half-shady sites. Easily withstands occasional drought, cold, heat, wind and urban conditoins.
