Description
Medium-sized, slow growing, upright, multi-stemmed evergreen tree, conifer (H 10-15 m, W 5-7 m). Bark smooth, green-grey, flaky; under the scales with patches of light yellow, light red-brown, violet-brown or olive green, ornamental. Crown broad, flattened spherical, irregular. Branches open to horizontal. Young shoots olive green, smooth. Buds elongate egg-shaped. Needles (5-8 cm) stiff, pointed, in bundles of 3, glossy, dark green to yellow-green. Needles scent strongly of terpentine when crushed. Flowers separately arranged in male and female inflorescence on the same plant. Flowering period: April. Fruits cones (4-7 cm), egg-shaped, brown. Requires dry, sufficiently drained soils.
