Description
Small, bushy, widely spreading deciduous shrub (H 3-6 m, W 3-5 m). Crown broadly ovate to rounded, dense. Branches upright to widely spreading. Leaves broadly ovate (5-7 cm), with a finely serrate margin, smooth, at first light coppery red, later dark green, lighter underneath, autumn colour dark red to brown-red. Flowers numerous, in loose clusters, star-shaped (2-3 cm), simple, snow white. Flowering period: April-May. Fruits elongate globose (1 cm), fleshy, juicy, red to black-red. Edible raw. Ripening time: June-July. Attracts butterflies, bees and birds. A tough, undemanding plant, grows well also in poor soils; normally withstands wind, cold, heat, drought and urban conditoins.
