Description
Medium-sized, upright, moderately growing evergreen tree, conifer (H 7-12 m, W 3-5 m). Crown conical to narrowly ovoid. Bark rough, it peels off decoratively in strips. Stems flattened, fan-shaped, dense. Needles scalelike (0,2-0,4 cm), smooth, variegated, young needles bright yellow, later yellow-green to bright dark green, with white spot underside. Male and female flowers separate, on the same plant, monoecious plant; male inflorescence (5-8 mm) orange-brown, female cone-shaped inflorescence green. Flowering period: April-May. Fruits woody cones (1-2 cm), elongate round, dark brown. Requires deep, moderately moist, nutrient-rich soils, and sunny to half-shady sites. Easily withstands occasional drought, cold, heat, wind and urban conditoins.
