Description
Medium-sized, slow growing deciduous tree (H 12-15 m, W 6-7 m). Crown broadly ovoid to rounded, dense. Bark on young shoots slightly hairy; old bark glabrous, grey. Branches upright to open, slightly hanging. Leaves broadly ovate to heart-shaped (5-12 cm), with distinctive, long, narrow teeth along the margin, glabrous to slightly hairy, glossy; at first light coppery red in softly hairy, later mid to dark green in glabrous, underneath brownish hairy. Flowers in light, hanging inflorescence (of 10-20 and more flowers), simple, pale yellow, with numerous anthers, scented. Flowering period: August. Fruits dry, oval, grey-green. Ripening time: October-November. It grows well in deep, sufficiently drained, moderately moist soils, in sunny, warm sites, in a slightly sheltered site. Easily withstands wind.
