Description
Small, bushy, widely spreading deciduous shrub (H 1-1,2 m, W 1,3-1,8 m). Branches densely branched, thorny, dark grey-brown. Leaves broadly ovate (4-7 cm), with a serrate margin, smooth, glossy, dark green, underneath light green to light blue-green. Flowers cup-shaped (3-4 cm), vivid red-orange. Flowering period: March-May. Fruits ovate (4-6 cm), fleshy, yellow to partly red, scented, edible processed. Ripening time: September-October. Undemanding, long-lived shrub for moderately dry to moist soils and sunny sites. Easily withstands cold, heat, occasional drought and urban conditoins. Chaenomeles × superba is a cross C. japonica × C. speciosa.
