Description
Small, upright, slow growing evergreen tree, conifer (H 6-9 m, W 2-3 m). Crown narrowly conical, regular, very dense. Bark on young shoots smooth, slightly hairy, light brown-grey; later silver-grey to dark grey, flaky. Branches open, horizontal. Needles flat, linear (1,5-3,5 cm), with a rounded tip, smooth, glossy, dark green, lighter beneath, with two longitudinal white bands. Flowers not remarkable, separately arranged in male and female inflorescence, on the same plant. Fruits cones, ovate (12-20 cm), dark brown. Grows best in deep, moderately moist soils, in places with higher air-humidity. Easily withstands deep shadow.
