Description
Small, weeping, slow growing deciduous tree (H 2-3 m, depands as well on grafting height and support, W 1,5-2 m). Crown umbrella-shaped. Branches hanging. Bark dark grey-brown. Leaves broadly heart-shaped to round (8-14 cm), smooth, at first bright wine red, later dark wine red to dark violet-red, autumn colour bright yellow to red. Flowers numerous, in small dense inflorescence, pea-like (1 cm), bright lilac-pink. Flowering period: April-May. Fruits dry, thin, elongated pods (6-8 cm), dark brown, persist on the branches into winter. It grows well in sufficiently drained soils, in distinctly sunny sites. Easily withstands urban conditions, heat and drought.
