Description
Small, very slow growing upright evergreen tree, conifer (H 1,4-2 m, W 1-1,5 m). Bark grey, roughly flaky. Crown columnar to narrowly ovoid, dense. Branches upright to slightly open, short. Young shoots very light grey. Buds broadly egg-shaped. Needles (7-10 cm) pointed, in pairs, stiff, prominent, very dark green. Flowers separately arranged in male and female inflorescence on the same plant. Flowering period: April. Fruits cones (5-8 cm), egg-shaped, glossy, at first dark grey-blue, ripe dark grey-brown. Requires dry, sufficiently drained soils. A very undemanding pine-species, very tolerant to drought, cold, heat, wind and urban conditoins.
