Description
Small, upright, slow growing, compact evergreen tree, conifer (H 6-8 m, W 3-5 m). Bark at first grey-green, smooth, later grey-brown, flaky, roughly fissured. Crown regular, narrowly pyramidal, dense. Branches open. Young shoots olive green, dense red-brown hairy, later dark grey. Buds egg-shaped, narrowly pointed, mostly resinous. Needles (5-10 cm) stiff, pointed, prominent, in fives, white-grey-blue to blue-green, inside with remarkable white margin. Flowers separately arranged in male and female inflorescence on the same plant. Flowering period: April. Fruits cones (5-8 cm), broadly egg-shaped, brown, scales stiff, thick, bent backward. Requires dry, sufficiently drained soils, withstands cold and wind.
