Small, upright, broadly growing, often multi-stemmed, deciduous ornamental fruit-tree (H 5-7 m, W 4-6 m). Crown broadly spherical to dome-shaped. Leaves broadly ovate (4-7 cm), smooth, at first distinctly coppery-red, later bluish green, autumn colour yellow, orange to red. Flowers numerous, in loose clusters, star-shaped (2 cm), simple, white, with pink-red hue. Flowering period: April-May. Fruits elongate globose (1 cm), fleshy, juicy, violet-blue to blue, with a bloom. Edible raw. Ripening time: June-July. Attracts butterflies, bees and birds. A tough, undemanding plant, grows well also in poor soils; normally withstands wind, cold, heat, drought and urban conditoins.
