Description
Medium-sized, upright, compact, moderately growing deciduous shrub, ornamental in fruit-plant (H 1,8-2,3 m, W 1-1,5 m). Leaves simple, ovate (5-10 cm), smooth, glossy, dark green, autumn colour orange-red to red. Flowers in dense umbels, simple, cup-shaped (0,7 cm), white. Flowering period: May. Fruits in umbells, round (up to 1,2 cm), fleshy, dark red-violet to black, juicy, edible. Ripening time: August-October, high-yielding variety, fruits suitable for fresh use or for cooking and making jams. Attracts butterflies, bees and birds. Undemanding, healthy shrub. Requires deep, always moderately moist soils. Aronia × prunifolia is a cross A. arbutifolia × A. melanocarpa.
