Description
Large, upright, narrowly growing deciduous shrub (H 3-4 m, W 1,8-2,3 m). Crown pyramidal, dense. Branches v plasteh, short, broadly open to horizontal. Leaves broadly ovate (6-9 cm), ribbed, with a serrate margin, somehow leathery, dark green, autumn colour bright red to dark violet-red. Flowers numerous, in large, slightly dome-shaped inflorescence (10 cm), simple (1-2 cm), greenish-white to white; tiny fertile flowers in center, larger sterile flowers around the edge. Flowering period: May-June, reblooming untill autumn. Fruits ovate (0,6 cm), fleshy, red. Attracts butterflies, bees and birds. Needs deep, fertile, always moderately moist, but well-drained soils; grows well under trees and shrubs, in half-shade.
