Description
Medium-sized, bushy, very widely spreading deciduous shrub (H 1,7-2 m, W 2,5-4 m). Crown flattened, dome-shaped. Branches distinctly v plasteh, broadly open to horizontal. Leaves broadly ovate (6-10 cm), ribbed, with a serrate margin, mid to dark green, autumn colour light pink-orange to dark violet-red. Flowers numerous, in large, slightly dome-shaped inflorescence (12 cm), simple (1-2 cm), snow-white; tiny, fertile flowers in center, several larger sterile flowers around the edge (some of these also in center). Flowering period: May-June. Fruits ovate (0,8 cm), fleshy, dark red to black. Attracts butterflies, bees and birds. Needs deep, fertile, always moderately moist, but well-drained soils; grows well under trees and shrubs, in half-shade.
