Description
Medium-sized, compact, slow growing evergreen shrub, conifer (H 1,5-2 m, W 1,5-2 m). Bark reddish-brown to grey, flaky to fissured. Crown rounded, dense, regular. Branches upright to widely spreading, short, densely branched. Buds larger, egg-shaped, very light grey, almost white, slightly resinous. Needles (8-10 cm) pointed, in pairs, thin, prominent, bright light green. Flowers separately arranged in male and female inflorescence on the same plant. Flowering period: April. Fruits cones (4-7 cm), elongate egg-shaped, yellow brown. Requires dry, well-drained soils. Useful as a container-plant. The variety is a cross Pinus densiflora × P. thunbergii.
