Description
Medium-sized, upright, moderately growing evergreen shrub (H 1,5-1,8 m, W 1-1,5 m). Crown broadly oval, dense. Leaves ovate (1,5-3 cm), slightly hairy, leathery, glossy, dark green, underneath brown. Flowers very numerous, in dense terminal inflorescence, funnel-shaped (3-4 cm), light salmon pink. Flowering period: July-August. Requires light, deep, fertile, acidic, humus-rich, sufficiently drained, but always moist soils, in a light semi-shade. Needs somehow a sheltered position and some winter protection (mulch). The variety is a cross between Rhododendron griersonianum and R. auriculatum.
