Description
Medium-sized, upright, slow growing deciduous shrub (H 2-2,5 m, W 2-3 m). Crown ovate to rounded, dense. Bark on young shoots red-brown, later light brown, it peels off decoratively in strips. Leaves with red petioles, broadly lanceolate (6-8 cm), distinctly rib-like veined, light to mid green, autumn colour red to violet-red. Flowers in dense, half-round inflorescence (5 cm), simple (1 cm), light pink to white, intensely scented. Flowering period: March-April, eventually od October untill spring. Fruits ovate, fleshy, glossy, bright red to black. Attracts butterflies and bees. Undemanding shrub, grows well under trees, in half-shade, prefers moist soils.
