Description
Large, upright, broad, deciduous ornamental tree (H 20-25 m, W 10-15 m). Bark black-grey to dark grey-brown, older bark scaly and longitudinaly fissured; in cracks yellow. Crown broadly oval to rounded. Young shoots and leaves densely pubescent. Leaves oval (15-30 cm), deeply and unevenly pinnate (7-9 leaflets), leathery, glossy, young leaves brown-red, later dark green, underneath hairy; autumn colour bright yellow to bright red, intense colouring. Flowers separately arranged in hanging, male and female inflorescence, green-yellow. Flowering period: April-May. Fruits elongate (1,5-2 cm), hard, brown. Undemanding tree, grows well in well-drained, moderately dry to moist soils, in sun.
