Description
Medium-sized, upright, broad, fast growing, deciduous ornamental tree, often multi-stemmed (H 7-14 m, W 6-8 m). Crown ovate to egg-shaped. Leaves broadly ovate (6-12 cm), dark green, underneath light blue-green, autumn colour yellow, orange to red. Flowers numerous, v upright to slightly hanging panicles (10-15 cm), simple (up to 1,5 cm), white, intensely scented. Flowering period: April-May. Fruits globose (up to 1 cm), fleshy, glossy, black. Attracts butterflies, bees and birds. An undemanding species, grows also in moist soils, survives temporary flooding, normally withstands shade, occasional drought and urban conditoins.
