Description
Small, compact, slow growing evergreen shrub (H 0,5-0,7 m, W up to 1 m). Branches light brown, stiff, upright. Leaves large, pinnately compound, leaflets egg-shaped (6-8 cm), with a spiny margin, leathery, glossy, dark green to reddish, in winter distinctly red, dark red to wine red, underneath light grey-green. Flowers numerous, in rich racemes on shoots' ends, lemon to vivid yellow, strongly scented. Flowering period: March-May. Fruits ovate (up to 1 cm), fleshy, grey-blue. Attracts butterflies, bees and birds. Good cut-flower. Very undemanding, hardy shrub, in dry winter and in a very open, cold site, may eventually lose some leaves, but grows back. Easily withstands pruning.
