Description
Small, dwarf, densely growing, evergreen or semi-evergreen shrub (H 0,3-0,5 m, W 0,6-0,8 m). Branches upright to slightly arching, dense, thornless. Leaves ovate to egg-shaped (2,5-3 cm), leathery, with a spiny margin, smooth, glossy, dark green, autumn colour red. Flowers rare, in numerous dense inflorescence, yellow to bright orange-yellow, strongly scented. Flowering period: May. Fruits rare, ovate (0,8 cm), fleshy, smooth, dark red-violet. Ripening time: October-November, fruits eventually persist on the branches long into winter. Attracts butterflies, bees and birds. Undemanding shrub, it grows well in different soil-types, also in poor, dry, sandy soils; in distinctly sunny to slightly shady sites.
