Description
Large, fast growing, deciduous climber, fruit-plant (H 4-6 m, depands as well on staking, W 4-6 m). Bark light brown, later grey-brown, young shoots densely hairy. Leaves broadly ovate to round (15-20 cm), rough, mid green. Flowers simple (3-4 cm), cream white, male and female flowers, self-fertile. Flowering period: May-June. Fruits in loose racemes, light green-brown, densely hairy, ovate (5-6 cm), flesh light green, sweet, juicy. Ripening time: October-November; fruits suitable for fresh use and processing. Most varieties survive a normal winter in central-european continental climate; requires winter protection when young and in case of very low temperatures (below -15 °C). Requires deep, humus-rich, fertile, slightly acidic soils.
