Description
Medium-sized, upright, slow growing deciduous shrub, fruit-plant (H 2-3 m, W 1-2 m). Crown broadly ovate to rounded. Leaves broadly ovate (2-4 cm), at first light coppery red and densely, softly hairy, later dark green, autumn colour orange to red. Flowers numerous, in loose clusters, star-shaped (2 cm), simple, white. Flowering period: April-May. Fruits elongate globose (1 cm), fleshy, juicy, dark red-violet to black-blue. Edible raw. Ripening time: June-July. Attracts butterflies, bees and birds. A tough, undemanding plant, grows well also in poor soils; normally withstands wind, cold, heat, drought and urban conditoins.
