Description
Small, prostrate, pillow-shaped, widely spreading evergreen shrub, fruit-plant (H 20-40 cm, W 30-60 cm). Stems thin, partially woody, prostrate to creeping. Leaves ovate (1-2 cm), smooth, slightly glossy, mid green, in winter partly coppery-red. Flowers solitary, in leaf axils, pitcher-like (0,7-1 cm), white. Flowering period: May-June. Fruits globose (1,2-1,5 cm), fleshy, juicy, tartish, bright red to dark violet-red; good for fresh use or for cooking and making jams. Ripening time: August-September, very early, very high yield. Grows well in acidic, humus-rich, light, always moderately moist to wet soils, in sun or semi-shade.
