Description
Large, bushy, fast growing deciduous shrub, eventually smaller tree (H 6-8 m, W 5-7 m). Crown broadly ovate to rounded, open, irregular. Branches upright to open. Bark on young shoots green-yellow, later grey. Leaves narowly lanceolate (10-18 cm), margin bent downwards (revolute), glossy, mid green to dark green, underneath dense svilnato hairy. Flowers in clusters, catkins (3-5 cm), silver-grey to yellow. Flowering period: April-May. Seeds numerous, very tiny, with grey-white hairs. Ripening time: May-June. A tough species, normally withstands urban conditions, wind, cold and occasional flooding. Needs always moist soils.
