Sorbus arnoldiana "White Wax"

Description

Small, slow growing, upright deciduous tree (H 7-10 m, W 4-5 m). Crown at first rounded, later ovate, regular. Bark on young shoots light grey, dense white hairy; later grey, lightly fissured. Leaves pinnate, broadly ovate (10-20 cm), with 11-15 leaflets, with a serrate margin, dark green, autumn colour bright yellow to orange-red. Flowers in flat inflorescence (up to 15 cm), simple, cup-shaped (1-1,5 cm), white. Flowering period: May-June. Fruits globose (1-1,4 cm), fleshy, yellow-orange to orange. Ripening time: August-September. To be used fresh, for juicing or for cooking and making jams. Attracts butterflies, bees and birds. Requires warm, sunny sites; undemanding species, normally withstands urban conditoins. The variety is a cross between vrstama Sorbus aucuparia and S. discolor. Full name: Sorbus × arnoldiana 'Golden Wonder'.

Sunny shady position

Plants for destinctively sunny sites need and tolerate a lot of direct sun radiation (eg. roses, even more spurge (euphorbia myrsinites) , sea buckthorn, sedum, most of rock-garden plants, cactuses etc). Mostly, but not necessarily, these plants can also tolerate drought. Roses need more water and noursihments and rich, deep, fetile soil, while white stonecrop survives more weeks in dry soil without rain or watering and can grow normally in poor, sandy soil as well.
